Influences

When discussing the production as a group, we all contributed similar ideas towards the genre and storyline that we wanted. During the discussion, when we all put our ideas forward, we all had been influenced from different film, and by us giving different ideas and influences, we came up with a storyline for our production.

Twilight was an influence upon myself and another member of my group. The beginning sequence and opening to twilight gave me the influence of a voice over. As twilight opens, an american, soft, girl's voice begins to talk, telling the audience about the present and then moving into her past, grasping the audiences attention to question, what has happened. The voice over seems to match the tension and atmosphere upon the film, which is firstly a misty woods, then moves onto the girl, who looks mysterious and shy like, and finally moving into the wooden area of a town named Forks. Our procudtion wanted to create a tension like atmosphere in our beginng sequence also, so we decided a voice over of a girl's voice could help to match this.

Another film that influenced my group was the film Gothika, made in 2003. The storyline gave us the idea for our production, as it about a women who is sent to a mental hospital for seeing ghosts, everyone believes that she is mental but in reality what she is seeing is correct but she cannot convince anyone that she is right. As the story unfolds the truth about her husband's life is revealed. Our production is not about a women seeing ghosts, but a woman seeing her split personality as she has skitzophrenia. Throughout the film Gothika, there is a edgy atmosphere, similar to the one we aim to create in our production, and the beginning sequence gives an eerie feel due to the dark music. Another feature that influenced us was the titles and transitions,  the black background and faded but prominent white titles looked professional but chilling and added to the tension.

Finally, the film Premonition influenced our production. The film is about a woman who sees things before they happen, but has to try and stop them. The tagline is 'It's not your imagination.' which links to the idea in our production that the girl is not mad. The productions share a similarity due to the fact that the characters lead normal lives until one small change, which sets the chain of events, leading to their decline, in motion.
